Premature ejaculation

Premature ejaculation is the man's inability or difficulty exercising voluntary control over ejaculation. It is the most common sexual problem in men, affecting more than one in four.

What is premature ejaculation?

It is difficult to make an incontrovertible description of what premature ejaculation is. On several occasions over time, sexologists have tried to give a quantifiable definition based on the measurement of time or the statistical correlation regarding the orgasm of the female partner. This problem is generally based on mutual satisfaction in the couple's relationship.

What are the causes of premature ejaculation?

They can be psychological and emotional and concern the internal dynamics of the couple or, in much rarer cases, be determined by physical factors such as hyperthyroidism, hypersensitivity of the male genital apparatus or inflammations such as prostatitis and vesiculitis.

What are the symptoms of premature ejaculation?

Premature ejaculation concerns one's way of understanding sexual activity and the couple's satisfaction. The classification is distinguished into primary or secondary, respectively, if it is manifested from the beginning of the sexual activity of the individual affected by it or if it intervenes later, after a period of satisfactory sexual activity. We also speak of generalised disorder if it is always present in sexual or situational activity or if it occurs only for specific situations, actions, or partners. Sometimes the ailment is accompanied by a reduction in erections.

TREATMENTS

This disorder is mainly treated through consultation with a psychologist specialising in sexology problems, who can gradually suggest ways to improve the situation, frequently involving both partners in the therapeutic process.

In some cases, mainly when physical factors also affect the dysfunction, drug therapy may employ local anaesthetics or selective serotonin reuptake drugs. When an erection problem coexists, phosphodiesterase inhibitor drugs (sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil) that indicate erectile dysfunction can also be used; such medicines normalise erections and lengthen ejaculatory times.

PREVENTION

Risk factors for premature ejaculation can include anxiety, stress, and specific health problems. Some psychotropic substances, both drugs and drugs, can lead to an accentuation of dysfunction. It is essential to discuss it with the andrologist to avoid the problem, which is not solved indefinitely and has repercussions on the couple's quality of life.

This sexual problem can be prevented and treated if people talk to each other and are willing to try different things.
